How care plans work: reminders that adapt to your home
· 5 min read
"Water once a week" is the most common piece of plant advice in the world, and it's wrong for almost everyone who follows it. A pothos on a bright windowsill in August dries out faster than the same pothos in a dim hallway in January. A fixed schedule can't know the difference. Leafnote builds a different kind of plan — one that starts from real defaults and keeps adjusting as it learns more about your specific plant, in your specific home.
Where the plan starts
Every species in Leafnote's catalog carries baseline care data — typical watering interval, light needs, soil, humidity and temperature range — sourced and cached from botanical databases. That's the starting point, not the final answer. During Plant Setup, you tell Leafnote where the plant actually sits: which room, how much light that spot gets, pot size and drainage, and when it was last watered. The plan reshapes around those answers immediately.
Then it adjusts for where you live
Leafnote checks your local weather and folds it into the schedule. Rain forecast above 60% in the next 24 hours delays an outdoor watering automatically. A heatwave nudges the interval shorter. During a cold snap or expected frost, outdoor plants get a warning instead of a routine task. None of this requires you to think about the forecast yourself — it just shows up as a note on the task: "Skipped: 12 mm rain expected."
Every task type, one screen
- Watering, on an interval tuned to species, pot, and season
- Fertilizing during active growth months
- Repotting suggestions once roots are likely crowded
- Pest checks and leaf-cleaning reminders
- Rotating, so growth doesn't lean permanently toward the window
Complete a task and Leafnote logs it to that plant's history, then schedules the next occurrence. Snooze one and it asks why — overwatered, forgot, plant looked fine — and folds that answer back into future timing.
Leaving town doesn't break the plan
Vacation Mode takes your travel dates and rewrites the schedule around them: deep-watering before you leave, grouping plants for humidity, self-watering setup tips, and a pause on reminders while you're away. Standard care plans are free for every plant; personalized, seasonal adjustments and Vacation Mode are part of Leafnote Premium.
